The January 20, 2007 meeting was held in the Food Court at the Chisholm Trail Outlet and Retail Mall (formerly named the Newton Factory Outlet Mall). The meeting was called to order at 9:15am by President Mike Harvey. Present were Ko Bartel, Lee Buller, Lon Buller, Aaron Diller, David Duerksen, Ron Farthing, Marc Friesen, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent Harder, Marion Harper, Mike Harvey, Dan Inskeep, Bob Ogden, and Kent Stutzman.
Minutes: The December Minutes were accepted with one correction: the IRLP project is being donated by Lee and Mike, but donations are accepted and some have been received.
Treasurer's Added some dues ($90) into checking, leaving a total of $628.69 in checking and $45 in petty cash, totaling $673.69 in club funds.
Railroad Coax: The railroad has a large spool of coax we can have if we can figure out a way to get it. It weighs around 500lb and the spool is not in good enough shape to roll or pick up without special equipment, which Kent Harder might have access to.
Railroad Interference: Dan is still pushing them to fix it. He has documented his many communications, and might take it to the Kansas Section Manager if he can't get the railroad to resolve the interference.
Repeater Linking: The software for the IRLP project was ordered and has been received by Mike Harvey. The IRLP project is accepting donations to help pay for the software.
Club Equipment: We are compiling a list of club-owned equipment. David has not yet sent an E-Mail to club members to start getting this list compiled.
Camp Hawk: More delays on getting power to the tower, the attempted easement into the adjacent property didn't go through, so now they are going to run the power through the edge of the park itself rather than through the adjacent field. This is scheduled for next week, if there isn't too much mud. The county already has all their equipment installed and tested, so they are only waiting for power.
Repeater: Mike asked the club membership if everyone has tone producing capabilities on their radios. This would open the option to add auxiliary input channels to allow wider coverage -- for example, someone in Wichita could set up a radio for input, which would relay on 440 to the Camp Hawk site. The Camp Hawk site would only transmit on 2m, and would receive on 440 from various auxiliary sites, including having the Newton input at our existing grain mill repeater site. Mike said that this along with the IRLP project could make our repeater very wide range and popular. We have the equipment to do 6db 120watts out = about 500watts effective output, which would make our repeater a very wide area repeater, however it wouldn't hear nearly as well unless we add auxiliary inputs. There was concern about the increased complexity this would entail, but also excitement about the capabilities this would add, especially in holding wide-area nets, bike rides, etc. We will originally move the repeater to the new location and run it as normal, later we will do some testing and evaluate whether we want to switch to the external input sites model later.
EOC: Dan is going to visit with Lon and look at the county building plans to see if there is a better route to get to the HF antenna. The HF antenna needs to be tuned to optimal on 80m.
Severe Weather: Any time an incident of any magnitude happens, Lon would like to have Amateur Radio operators there to allow the transmission of weather-related information and other information that may be needed. There was additional discussion about Amateur Radio's role in emergency and disaster situations.
Meeting adjourned at 10:27am.
