The July 21, 2009 meeting was held in the Newton Public Library.  The meeting was called to order at 7:11pm by President Mike Harvey.  Present were David Duerksen, David Godshall, Jeanne and Russell Groves, Mike Harvey, Dan Inskeep, and Joe Palmer.

Minutes: The June Minutes were read and approved.

Repeater Work: Mike Harvey submitted a receipt for repair and tuning work done to the GE Master II backup repeater that he has since made the temporary current repeater.  It's working well, except it's not recognizing DTMF tones so it can't currently be remotely controlled.  It's running at 45 watts with the amplifier turned off.  Mike is going to send the GE Master Exec, which is the primary repeater, in for tuning.

Cargill Grain Elevator: There was discussion about our old repeater location which still contains some club antennas and coax.  Our old contact there, Marty Sadawsky, may no longer work there, so there was discussion about what that might mean for the club.  Not sure if we should try to find a new contact and try to maintain our presence on top, or if we should try to get our stuff back and forget about that location.  Joe will see if his wife who used to work there has some contacts, and Dan will ask some of his contacts.  There was an idea at one point of using the location as an input relay into our regular repeater.

Field Day: Gave Field Day results, which were submitted today.  Got a score of 1948 with 710 bonus points for 2658 total points.  Had 375 CW contacts, 333 phone contacts (including the GOTA station), and one digital.

Bike Rides: The MS Bike Ride and MCC Bike Ride both happen in September.  It is unknown if we will be requested to help.

Upcoming events:
 * Kansas QSO Party, August 29-30. http://www.ksqsoparty.org/
 * Salina Hamfest/KS ARRL Convention, Sunday, August 16
 * Valley Center/Wichita HamFest, October 3
 * Boy Scout Jamboree On The Air

Tower Erection: Dan talked about his current project is in the process of putting up a 35' tower and is planning on pouring the concrete base in a few days.

New Members: Jeanne and Russel Groves, who joined at this meeting, reported they passed their General Exam and asked for suggestions on their first HF rig.  Jeanne has some interest in building her own at some point, perhaps something like the Elecraft K2, but it may be more expensive than they want.  Some suggestions included the Kenwood TS-850, Icom 765, and Icom 450.

Meeting adjourned at 8:06pm.
