The March 16, 2002 meeting was held at Red Coach Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:08am by President Kent Harder. Members present were Fred Becker, Jeff Bitikofer, Mike Brunk, David Duerksen, Ron Farthing, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Kent Harder, Michael Harvey, Dan Inskeep, Robin McDaniel, Travis Pickerill, Rick Rickenberg, and Kent Stutzman.
The February minutes were read with no corrections.
Treasurer's Report: Added $90 from dues, for a new balance of $1058.80.
Repeater Antenna: Robin got a small salvaged gravity mount. Robin and Kent Stutzman are planning on installing the new gravity mount and move the existing antenna sometime in the next couple weeks. Will need to purchase some cement blocks and some more coax. There was some discussion about testing the coax joints for db loss and loose connections. The mount would probably not support the larger antenna the club has been planning to purchase. Will move the existing antenna, do some testing, and then evaluate whether additional work needs to be done.
National Weather Service: Ron Farthing reported that he was not aware of any immediate plans for certification tests.
MCC Relief Sale: April 12Š13. Ron Farthing will bring the comm center. TalkŠin frequency is 146.82 repeater. Start setting up arout 2pm on Friday, finish up around 5pm on Friday. Web site for the sale is http://kansas.mccsale.org
Field Day: Discussion about the merits of selecting a more public place versus our previous location at Stutzman Retreat Center. David made a motion to move the Field Day location to a more public place in Newton, Kent seconded. Michael Harvey pointed out one of the potential problems with a location in town might be complaints from nearby residents about interference. This will need to be taken into account when selecting a location. Other consideration are a rain plan, ease of hanging antennas, power options (commercial mains, generators), etc.
RACES: RACES onŠtheŠair meetings are starting again, 8:30pm on the 146.61 repeater. Allan Rickenburg stated he would like to receive training to be able to help at the command center during severe weather; Robin advised him, and anyone else interested, to monitor the radio and come down to the command center during an activation to receive learn the ropes. Robin also collected a couple names and addresses of Amateurs who would like to become RACES members, and he will forward that information to Lon Buller.
Meeting adjourned 10:05am.
