The March 15, 2003 meeting was held at Red Coach Restaurant in Newton. The meeting was called to order at 9:12am by President Kent Harder. Members present were Ko Bartel, Lon Buller, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Kent Harder, Dana Harder, Bob Ogden, Kent Stutzman, and Roger Wilson.
February Minutes were read with one correction: The Hesston ARC 2m repeater is 145.21, not 146.21 as reported. Another piece of information missing from the minutes was Ron Hoffman, Director of 911, as someone who can activate RACES if Lon is not available.
Treasurer's Report: Received $90 in dues, leaving total checking balance of $817.23, $120 in petty cash, $937.23 total.
Membership: There are currently 20 paid memberships (28 members including family members). There was some talk about ways to communicate with other Harvey County HAMs to invote them to join the club. There was talk about sending a mailing, possibly inviting them to some specific activity, such as a BBQ or event. Roger talked about one tactic the Wichita club occasionally does that in often successful is a DXpedition. They are a bit difficult to set up. Another idea was throw a banquet with a speaker or entertainment. Roger talked about possibly doing DXpeditions to Coronado Heights, the geographical center of the continental US in northern Kansas, or Mount Sunflower. Decided to continue discussion at the next meeting. The secretary passed out membership cards to the present members.
Controller: Kent Harder brought in the controller from the old 37 repeater. It needs to be repaired, but otherwise could serve as a backup controller.
Web Site: Ko wondered if the minutes from previous meetings were available to the members. It was pointed out that Kent Stutzman has most of them on the web site, http://www.newtonarc.net. Right now the web site is down, but Kent hopes to get it back up in a few days. The secretary needs to send him some of the more recent minutes.
Vests: Kent Stutzman bought 15
orange vests that say "Amateur Radio Communications" and it making
them
available to RACES members for $10. He also showed off a nice personalized
rain jacket he bought from the ARRL.
MCC Relief Sale: April 11 & 12, David Godshall invited everyone to come and help with communications. The web site for the sale is http://kansas.mccsale.org/
