The May 19, 2009 meeting was held in the Newton Public Library.  The meeting was called to order at 7:10pm by President Mike Harvey.  Present were Nick Aeschliman, Aaron Diller, David Duerksen, David Godshall, Bob Harder, Marion Harper, Mike Harvey, Dan Inskeep, Bob Ogden, Joe Palmer, and Kent Stutzman.

Minutes: The April Minutes were read and approved with several corrections.  David Godshall is not Vice-President, he is Secretary/Treasurer.  Also, the Field Day mentioned in the minutes will be in 2009, not in 2008.  Third, the website for the KS QSO party needs to include the www -- http://www.ksqsoparty.org/

Treasurer's Report: Spent $34.83 for PO Box fees.

Club Equipment: The certified letter was returned undeliverable shortly after the April meeting.  However, Mike Harvey got a call yesterday from the individual in question who said he was moving and the club's equipment was available to be picked up.  Dan and Mike picked up the equipment and found it appeared to be mostly there and in reasonable condition.  At this point further action to recover the equipment appears to be unnecessary.  Among the equipment is a Micor repeater that needs crystals but is otherwise ready to hook up to a controller and use as a backup repeater.

QSO Parties: Bob Harder participated in the Nebraska QSO Party and several other QSO Parties since the last meeting.

Emergency Communications: There was discussion about RACES and the possibility of applying for a grant to purchase a communications trailer.  There was concern the RACES group in Harvey County might not be large or active enough to warrant going after the grant.  There was additional discussion about the plans for remodeling the Emergency Communications area of the Courthouse and what that will mean for the RACES Amateur Radio communications room.  Joe mentioned it would be a good idea for everyone interested in RACES take at least the two introductory courses for the "Incident Command" courses: ICS100, ICS200.  These can be taken online at http://training.fema.gov/

Field Day: Mike will bring his K2, Dan will bring a IC756 or a TS940, Bob Ogden, if he's still in the area, can bring a 430.  There was discussion about looking at logging programs to replace the old NA, including freeware from N1MM.  It would be nice to be able to network our logging stations.  We are planning to operate 2A Commercial.  Mike has a generator that he might use to operate his station, or Marion might being a larger one that could also operate the air conditioner in the trailer.  Kent Stutzman noted that one of the Field Day road signs David Godshall made a few years ago got destroyed last year.

HR2160: The ARRL is encouraging Amateur Operators to ask their legislators to co-sign and/or support the federal HR2160 resolution which would help the ability to put up emergency amateur radio antennas and equipment in housing communities and places with otherwise restrictive covenants, etc.

Meeting adjourned at 8:03pm.

-- David Godshall, Secretary/Treasurer
