The October 15, 2005 meeting was held at the Food Court at the Newton Factory Outlet Mall. The meeting was called to order at 9:14am by President Kent Harder. Present were Lee Buller, Lon Buller, Tom Dhooge, David Godshall, Kent Harder, Marion Harper, Dan Inskeep, Robin McDaniel, Bob Ogden, Kent Stutzman, and Roger Wilson.
Minutes: September Minutes were accepted without corrections.
Treasurer's Report: No change. The $642.88 in the Marion Ford fund has not yet been sent to Bob Ford but the Treasurer will do so after the meeting.
RACES Meeting: Will be October 26 at 7pm at the EOC. In response to last week's question about Disaster Management chain of command, Courtney Becker and the Sheriff are alternates. Several others also have pagers.
Repeater: We don't yet have the new repeater as it is waiting for the crystals. Lon said the two new county towers have been ordered as well. The Katrina Hurricane may be delaying delivery of some of these items as resources are being diverted to that region for the reconstruction. Lee mentioned that former club member Gary Boldenow will be doing the new towers, and will be working with us in putting the new repeater on one of the new towers. There will be a small building at the base of the tower to contain the repeater and all county equipment. Formal permission to put our repeater on the new tower should be coming soon, but Lon doesn't anticipate any problems.
Field Day: Lee reported we came in second in the nation in our 3A commercial classification, not too far behind the Splitrock club in Northern New Jersey. He's planning on bringing in some CW "ringers" next year to help move us into the #1 position. PSK would also be a good addition.
Bike Rides: Roger said the MCC Bike Ride went quite well. Dan and Mike helped Roger. There were some problems getting in to the repeater, so moved communications to 82. A dog bit a rider south of Burton, but otherwise uneventful. The MS Bike Ride also went well.
Lee Buller: Wants to see if we as a club can work a Earth-Moon-Earth
bounce. The JT-65 software can help. Would need some other equipment
including a 15-element beam antenna, etc. Kent Stutzman and Lon Buller
expressed an interest in the club doing more fun things like what Lee was suggesting. Kent
Harder said his house would be a good location to do this.
Newton Festival of Lights: This year it will be December 1st, we should probably be there around 5:30pm. Our job will be to help get the staging area organized. Roger Wilson will be looking for 3-4 hams to help.
Meeting adjourned at 10:11am.
